The Leach/Carlton Residence

Sunday afternoon I had the pleasure of attending a tour of homes at the Plaza Towers on Peachtree sponsored by MODA. All the residences are beautiful with expansive floor to ceiling windows, breathtaking views and plenty of warm Atlanta daylight. The residence that I chose to feature today is that of Barry Leach and Rory Carlton. Barry Leach is the owner of Lancaster Interior Design and author of the blog, The Blue Remembered Hills.

The residence is unique because its look is decidedly modern, yet features just a sprinkling of modern or contemporary pieces. Have a look for yourself-I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as I do!
note-FLOR tiles on the deck, a row of green flanked by areas of brown

And that little picture, its hanging on monofilament. Great use of scale, too.

The library railing is ready for a ladder.

The lovely walls (in a perfect shade of off white high gloss) hide more storage sans any hardware. So elegant, so understated.

I'm a sucker for purple, the walls were a faint & subtle shade of purple in the main area. What do you think of these little stools? Sure that you can guess where I stand (or sit).

Barry Leach's attention to detail is tremendous, as evidenced by this leather handle and the Venetian artisan plaster wall in both bathrooms.

The upholstered wall serves as great replacement for a headboard especially in a relatively small space. With this simple custom element, the room gains unity, warmth and texture.

Gee-golly: I love that orange!

On the night stand is Fodor's This Is Paris-I have coveted this little series of sophisticated children's travel books for a bit. That red cover with the simplistic, charming drawings-the combination makes me smile. If you're not familiar with the books, do take a look HERE. You are in for a treat!

I just learned that putting my photos into Flickr would significantly increase their size without having to rearrange my code, bare with me-this is my first post importing my images via flickr. Thought the images might be too big, but I am very happy with how they appear.

Plus, I would love for Barry to tell us more about his home, but the tour was packed and there were 13 spaces worthy of questioning (thinking of just opening up my flickr for you guys to get a glimpse of all). I'll keep looking for contact info as I am still yearning to know the source of those white lacquer doors, the purple stools, that orange dresser, etc.

Happy Monday, Everyone! Have a wonderful day!

Oh and if you made it to the tour, be sure to share your favorites!

Did you meet Barry? I remember his place more that most of the units and we enjoyed them all. This is what I wrote to him after the tour:

We liked the blue kitchen. It looked work-a-day rather than "latest-high-style." I liked the tiny breakfast table in front of the window. I went nuts for the orange chest of drawers. It seemed that the place had "less." Great pieces, I think, but room to breath and space to move around without breaking something precious. Looks like people live there."

I did not have a chance to meet Barry, Terry-but thanks to your tremendous knowledge of Atlanta and its bloggers, I am about to shoot him an email. Hopefully, I will have another chance. Yes, Barry's home was beautiful, comfortable & witty. My only regret is not having taken even more pictures!

Also. my friend Meghan asked me what type of camera I used to shoot these images, I used a SONY DSC-W30-which I really enjoyed. The SONY did a great job in low light, focusing very well. Normally I shoot an Olympus u830,S830. Loved the SONY for shooting interiors.

I wanted to go to this but couldn't arrange to be in town - thanks for the pics! I'm loving me some subway tile and blue grey cabinets. And the library walls are fantastic - especially with the built in bookcases.
P.S. This Is Paris is also available at Anthropologie- they have such a great selection of books.

Thank you. I am truly flattered and thrilled that you published photos of our place first of all the places on the tour. Putting the flat on the tour was a tremendous amount of work but it was fun, especially on the day itself - meeting so many people and seeing the variety of styles in all the units. It was also great for us to have a deadline to finish a lot of things that had needed doing a long time. Again, thank you.

I shall write you a personal note by email.

What a treat-Barry was gracious enough to share some more details about his home via email. Thank you all for reading and comments-this little post & the conversation that came with it-made my day yesterday!

Oh and now I can tell you another reason that I like this condo so much. The fabric on the blue chair & couch pillows is Kelly Wearstler. Now, it all makes sense. If you want some pillows like that, check out Plum Cushion on Etsy.

Jennifer-me, too. I certainly looked for you, another time. Thank you for reading and commenting. What a pleasure!

I really enjoyed seeing this space. The bright orange was such a pleasant surprise in the bedroom...and I loved the upholstered wall. I also love when you sneak into the pix via a reflection, hehe ;)

So funny! I was at the tour as well, one of my projects was featured. Barry was one of my professors and is a good friend. He actually introduced me to your blog. I love his home, to death actually! It was my idea to lacquer the dresser in the master bedroom orange!

Hi Niki!
Thanks for visiting & commenting! I am so flattered that Barry introduced you to my blog-I have not had the chance to meet him, but I DID get to meet Rory yesterday at the fabric store. Such a small world. Barry was tremendously gracious with his knowledge of design, I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to capture his home-as I am sure it will inspire me for years to come. Good call on the dresser by the way!!
Best,
C
