"Why Do You Blog?"

"Why do you blog?"

It is a question often posed to bloggers by other bloggers and non bloggers, alike.  I suppose the responses are as varied as the individuals sitting in front of their lap tops creating content and publishing comments.
Nick Olsen (Miles Redd aluminst, decorator with a Columbia architecture degree), Rita Konig (ex-Domino mag, now NYT blogger), Jaithan Kotar and Eddie Ross (cofounders of Eddie Ross, Inc.) fielded the question from Richard Mishaan (Homer Design) at SCAD Style Reveal in April.
In June, I sat on a panel along with Cristi Holcomb and Tami Hardeman and answered the same question from moderator Laura Scholz (Scholz Communications) in front of a room of local business women at CRAVE chat.
Last night, I had the distinct pleasure of answering this question again.  You know who posed it?

The owner, founder and principle of the uber successful architecture firm Harrison Design Associates, Mr. Bill Harrison.  I'm sure my response was nervously muttered and contained a few lame, corporate buzzwords like "social networking" and "marketing".

What I really wanted to say is, "Are you kidding me, Mr. Harrison! THIS is exactly why I blog".

So, why do you blog?

Thank you to Terry for the introduction.

That WAS a pretty surreal moment last night - getting asked about what we do from such an outstanding professional was definitely a first!!

My reasons for blogging have changed great since I first started blogging a year ago. I started blogging as an outlet. Being a stay at home mom to three, there were days where adult communication was a minimal (besides my husband). Plus, I liked to talk about house stuff and non of my friends were interested! Now, I blog because I absolutely love it! Not only do I get to talk about design or parenting, but I get to meet great people like you, christi, erika, dayka, and more in the near future! blogging has not only given me an outlet, but has also given me a since of direction as to where I'm headed in life. I know that sounds wierd, but its true and thats pretty much all I can say at the moment;-)

And I'm just now realizing we don't follow each other! Problem solved!

Have a great weekend lady!

because i love design--i love refinishing furniture and exchanging ideas about new tips/products, i love being part of a (mostly) supportive environment, i love seeing the new creations of other people, and hearing about the stories of their lives. i feel like my life has been made better because i'm a blogger, and i love it!

Great question Claire! I just recently started blogging after stumbling upon a few blogs while researching business ideas. I was hooked! I blog as an outlet for ideas, inspiration, and a way to connect with fellow designers. I have already met so many incredible people through my blog and I look forward to connecting to many more!

The unexpected, happy rewards are nights like last night, enjoying an evening with fellow travelers whom I'd otherwise never have met. And believe me, Bill is a fellow traveler. What a treat.

I had to get all of this passion of design outside of me! I was wearing out my friends because I was emailing so many pictures to them. I finally decided that there HAS to be someone out there as obsessed with design as I am. And there are!

I just started blogging in June and everyone always asks WHY! I don't have a very fun job by day (IT Recruiting) and I wanted a place to explore my creative side! I love it and have become addicted!
