Hello there, Glossies!
Hope you're having a good summer. Can you believe that! Where has the time gone! It's been busy as ever over here and I've neglected to make posting a priority of late. The good news is a lot has happened since I last posted, so I have much to tell you coming up soon. No excuses for a lack of material over here.
Today, I have the itch to share with you my favorite room in our house. Doesn't everyone have a favorite room? Mine is the place where I feel most at peace as we go through the challenge of renovating a 1940's house ourselves. Located at the front of our house, my favorite room has excellent light - a must for me. It will also come as no surprise that this room is also one of the farthest along in terms of completion.
What we've already done to the guest room:
- refinished the floor
- refinished one of the original doors and hardware (one down, one to go)
- painted the walls
- painted the ceiling
- hung a new light fixture
- installed new shades
What's still on the list:
- paint some more trim
- put in a wall to wall work surface
- install built in shelving over surface
- build an upholstered headboard

Can't wait to stay there
Pretty room - love the lamp on the desk.
I agree, good light is a must! But, good light can be defined differently for different purposes. My little office has very good afternoon light, but it makes working in the office kind of a pain from 4-8, as the light shines right in my face when I am trying to work on the computer.
My favorite room is probably my bedroom, which gets light from the north, east, and south. I am a morning person, so the eastern light is wonderful - and since there are so many trees in the back, it is quite filtered until about 9:30.
The wait for the next glossy post has been almost too much to bear. The blue door rocks, you were teasing us with the blue Italian door from your last post.
I'm guessing your favorite room has windows on 2 sides? The desk at the North window? West window throwing afternoon shadows on the bed? We have one of those rooms, the light is very good in there, the house next door and trees block the harsh late afternoon light from the west window.
Looking forward to "much to tell you coming up soon" and hope to see y'all out.
My house, 1945, has exactly your doors. Never been painted, original hardware. The lone bathroom has a pocket door.
What have you done to your doors? thanks.
Garden & Be Well, XO Tara
ps...you going to that vintage event this weekend?
Hi Tara- Can't believe you have the same doors, too funny. The fact that yours were never painted and all original, well that just makes me envious! Thus far, I've stripped 3 original doors completely down to the wood. On each door, the stripping process revealed at least 5 different colors of paint in no telling how many layers. Then, I sanded each one, primed it, sanded it again and finally applied a layer of paint. Each door took over a week to finish and if I even have to do it again, I will do it assembly line style. The hardware was much easier to strip, I just soaked it in stripper and off came the paint. I'm going to have a post with the whole process up soon.
Terry, you're exactly right on the layout of my room. Too good!
TTI, I bet both your rooms are amazing!
This looks so so cute!! That door looks so like it's brand new -- love it all!
